OSPF – How to withdraw an OSPF route

OSPF – How to withdraw an OSPF route

Todays post will cover how OSPF withdraws a route after a link failure or de-configuration. There are some fantastic resources out there describing how to originate and advertise links and prefixes, but I haven’t found a good summary of OSPF link failure handling.

Using SNMP to switch APC power outlets

Using SNMP to switch APC power outlets

Switchable PDUs In my day job I work as a network test engineer and support a remote lab.  We have  a few devices connected to network switchable PDUs that allow us to remotely reset the power outlet of test devices.  Test switches and routers get ‘borked’ pretty often so these switchable PDUs can come in really handy.

OSPF – Why are Router LSA P2P links so complicated?

OSPF – Why are Router LSA P2P links so complicated?

I earned my CCNA a good few years back,  but I still remember all the pencilled notes in the OSPF LSA section of my Todd Lammle study guide. I found the Router LSA information hard to learn, mainly because I didn’t understand why it was so complex.   In this post we’re going to take a closer look at the Router LSA,  specifically the point-to-point (P2P) link.  On completion, you should better understand why the Router LSA seems complex and you will…

Be judged or be ignored

Photo By Lestat (Jan Mehlich) under Creative Commons   Being judged is tough but valuable I have wanted to start a network engineering blog for quite some time. I had a long list of  reasons as to why I hadn’t started yet. I wasn’t sure what my colleagues would think. Did I have enough material? Could I afford the time? Then I read a post from Seth Godin a few weeks back that really hit home.
